Suggested Time Line to Finish and Achieve the CDA Credential
Order the 120 hour coursework from www.dccsbc.com
1st month: At nights and during the weekend, do at least 10 hours per week. At the end of the first month you should have finished at least 40-45 hours of classes. Print at least 10 hours worth of certificates from the web site to cover your BFTS training for the year.
2nd month: Order the CDA application packet ($20.00+shipping) from www.cdacouncil.org. Continue doing 10 hours per week. At the end of the second month you should have finished at least 80-90 hours of classes. Start accumulating the items needed for the Professional Resource File (portfolio), a complete description of which is available in the application packet booklet.
3rd month: Finish the coursework. Continue with your portfolio.
4th month: Finish the portfolio. Arrange for a qualified Advisor (observer). Be observed. Hand out Parent Questionnaires. Do not open the sealed observation form or questionnaires. Fill out the application form that came in the CDA application packet. Apply for the Bright from the Start scholarship for the final Direct Assessment through Bright from the Start Scholarships. They will advise you how to submit your application and to include a check for $48.75
Wait to hear from the CDA Council representative, who will inform you of a time and place for your final test. Carry your portfolio, questionnaires and observation instrument and take the final: a short multiple choice test and a few oral questions like "What would you do if...?". Do NOT leave your portfolio with the representative. It is yours to keep and refer to for the future.
Receive your credential in the U.S. Mail.
